I am a junior at the University of Iowa.  In the coming months I will create web application that shows the location of rivers in Iowa and their intersection with roads.  I will use those maps in conjunction with bridge information to predict if a bridge will become inundated.   This application will have color codes associated with the flood risk severity.  The goal of this project is to develop a tool to inform citizens about flooded bridges in real time.  Currently, there are flood warnings only at the county level; this new system will be more localized and specific to each river crossing, which will help local communities better understand their flood risk.
