I am interested in ecosystem hydrology, sustainable use of water resources, and the impact that flood events can have on communities.  I witnessed the devastating effect of floods firsthand in 2008 when many of the neighborhoods around where I live were evacuated.  I am currently working on creating flood inundation maps using MIKE 11 and MIKE 21 for the Charles City area.  I hope to use the experience gained from this to aid in my research and career.

For a demonstration of my work, start the animation below to see a flood wave traveling along the Cedar River through Charles City.  The animation was created using a model developed in MIKE21.  The model will be further improved by incorporating structures crossing the river including bridges and dams.  The model will then be calibrated using data from the 2008 flood.  The resulting inundation maps from the model will help Charles City officials identify high risk areas within the city for a given streamflow.
