I am interested in developing high-resolution topographic and inundation models using LiDAR (remote sensing technology) data. I am currently deriving high-resolution inundation information from the 2008 flood, using the LiDAR data set collected just after the 2008 flood peak. Our pilot study demonstrates that compared to the simultaneous aerial photos, our model extracts the flood extent very accurately. Inundation depth was also estimated in our pilot study. I am also working on refining the Digital Elevation Model (DEM) generated from LiDAR data, in order to make it more accurate and useful for the development of hydraulic and hydrologic models.
