Since its inception, I have been working for the Iowa Flood Center.  My primary responsibility is the maintenance of 48+ rain gauges located at 24+ locations within our Rain Gauge Network. Maintaining the gauges consists of calibrating, leveling, and cleaning of all of the gauges, as well as site maintenance on a bi-weekly rotation. Each winter all rain gauges are removed for deep cleaning and calibration at the lab.  I also assist in the deployment, repair, and maintenance of other instruments such as stream gauges, soil moisture probes, and other meteorological equipment as needed.  Maintenance of these data collection instruments ensures that all data collected is accurate and not skewed by dirt or debris. The information collected is key to the development and validation of flood predication models.
