I am a junior at The University of Iowa. In the coming months, I will create web application to show the location of rivers in Iowa and their intersections with roads. I will use those maps in conjunction with bridge information to predict if a bridge will become inundated. This application will be color coded to illustrate flood risk severity. The goal of this project is to develop a tool to inform citizens about flooded bridges in real time. Currently, flood warnings are available only at the county level; this new system will be more localized and specific to each river crossing, which will help local communities better understand their flood risks.
