I am interested in the development and use of numerical tools to better understand and describe river flow. In the weeks following the 2008 flood, I participated in river bed surveys to develop high resolution maps of the Iowa River in the vicinity of downtown Iowa City. I used these maps in conjunction with topographic data provided by Ayres Associates to develop a hydraulic model of the Iowa River corridor between the Coralville Reservoir and the southern limit of Iowa City. The model will be used to create detailed inundation maps along the Iowa River corridor.  These maps will help local communities and individual citizens to better understand their flood risk and make informed land use decisions.
