My research interests include low power embedded systems, sensor networks, and wireless communication. I am currently developing a low cost temperature sensor for the Iowa Flood Center. These will replace the current sensors at the Tipping-Bucket Rain Gauge sites to measure soil
temperature, as they are cheaper, more robust, and consume less power. The new sensors only require two wires, as opposed to typical sensors which require at least three. Since cable can easily become the most expensive component, the sensors can be made much cheaper by eliminating these extra wires. My previous work at the IFC includes development of the prototype River Stage Sensors.
